The City of Auburn / Auburn University Yarbrough Tennis Center picked up its award at the US Open — one of 45 facilities honored nationwide.

On August 26, 2025, the Yarbrough Tennis Center received a USTA Outstanding Facility Award at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, during the US Open. Forty-five facilities across the country were honored for excellence in facility management, programming and contributions to the sport.

It is the third national recognition for the center in a decade:

  • 2015 — Professional Tennis Registry Public Facility of the Year
  • 2024 — USTA Premier Facility, one of 50 in the program’s first year
  • 2025 — USTA Outstanding Facility Award

Why it matters for players

Awards like this are judged on the things you feel on court — surface quality, lighting, layout, player amenities — and on how much grassroots programming a facility runs. Yarbrough has 34 lighted courts: 16 clay (including a stadium court), 12 outdoor hard and 6 indoor. Daily court fees are $3 per person on hard, $5 on clay and $10 indoors, with memberships available through auburnal.myrec.com.

If you’ve never played on clay, the summer is a good time to try it. Book a lesson through the front desk at (334) 501-2920 and ask for a clay court.
