I have a problem with a lot of tennis shoes.
They look way too much like tennis shoes.
You know exactly what I mean. Huge logos, aggressive shapes, loud colors, and enough technical-looking material to announce from 50 feet away that you just came off Court 4.
THE ROGER Clubhouse Pro takes a very different approach.
And personally, I love it.
For me, this is the kind of modern tennis shoe the sport needs more of: something designed with tennis in mind that doesn’t make you feel like you need to change shoes the second you walk away from the court.
And yes, the Roger Federer connection certainly doesn’t hurt.
What Is THE ROGER Clubhouse Pro?
THE ROGER Clubhouse Pro is part of the Roger Federer and On tennis footwear lineup.
But what immediately separates it for me isn’t a technical specification.
It’s the philosophy behind the design.
This is a tennis shoe that doesn’t abandon style just because it’s associated with performance. It has a clean, understated appearance that feels equally at home around a tennis club.
That’s surprisingly difficult to find.
First Impression: These Shoes Look Fantastic
I’ll just say it.
The Clubhouse Pro is one of the better-looking tennis shoes I’ve come across.
There’s something incredibly clean about the design. It has hints of that classic tennis aesthetic, but it doesn’t feel like a retro shoe desperately trying to be fashionable.
It looks modern. It looks premium. Most importantly, it doesn’t look like it’s trying too hard.
That matters more to me than footwear companies probably want to admit.
When I’ve finished playing, I don’t necessarily want to change shoes just to go grab lunch or spend some time around the club.
The Clubhouse Pro looks like something I’d happily keep wearing.
The Federer Influence Is a Big Part of the Appeal
Full disclosure: I’m a big Roger Federer fan.
So yes, there’s some bias here.
But what I like about THE ROGER line is that the Federer connection doesn’t have to be obnoxiously obvious.
Federer’s tennis always had a certain quality to it. Clean. Controlled. Elegant. Seemingly effortless, even when what he was doing was ridiculously difficult.
I see some of that philosophy in the aesthetic of the Clubhouse Pro.
It doesn’t scream for attention.
And I think that actually makes it cooler.
Why Can’t Tennis Shoes Just Look Good?
This seems like such an obvious question.
Tennis equipment has become incredibly sophisticated, yet tennis footwear sometimes seems caught between two extremes.
You get highly technical shoes that look like spaceships.
Or you get beautiful lifestyle sneakers that you wouldn’t necessarily choose when it’s time to play tennis.
Why can’t we have something that feels at home in both worlds?
That’s what makes the Clubhouse Pro interesting to me.
It represents the idea that serious tennis products don’t need to look ridiculous to prove they’re serious.
The Biggest Compliment I Can Give the Clubhouse Pro
I’d want to wear them even when I’m not playing tennis.
For a tennis shoe, that’s a huge compliment.
Most tennis shoes have a very specific life.
You put them on before playing. You play. You take them off. Back into the tennis bag they go.
The Clubhouse Pro has a completely different appeal.
I can imagine arriving at the club in them, playing, finishing my session, talking tennis for another hour, grabbing something to eat, and never thinking about changing shoes.
That’s exactly what I want from this category.
Tennis Equipment Should Make You Want to Play
There’s another reason I think products like this matter.
Great tennis equipment creates excitement.
It doesn’t matter whether we’re talking about a racquet, shoes, strings, or anything else. When you genuinely like your equipment, you want to use it.
You find another reason to get on court.
As a coach, I think there’s something valuable about that.
We can analyze tennis equipment endlessly, but we’re still playing a sport. We’re supposed to enjoy this stuff.
If opening your tennis bag and seeing a particular pair of shoes makes you slightly more excited about playing, that’s a win in my book.
Who Is THE ROGER Clubhouse Pro For?
I think the Clubhouse Pro makes the most sense for the tennis player who cares about what they wear beyond the baseline.
If you want your tennis footwear to have an extremely aggressive, unmistakably performance-first aesthetic, you may naturally gravitate toward something else.
But if you’re someone who likes understated tennis style, spends plenty of time around the club, and wants footwear that doesn’t visually feel confined to the court, the Clubhouse Pro is extremely appealing.
Federer fans are obviously going to understand the attraction too.
I’m certainly not immune.
Is THE ROGER Clubhouse Pro Worth It?
For the right player, I think the appeal is obvious.
The Clubhouse Pro isn’t interesting to me because it tries to be the loudest shoe in tennis.
It’s interesting because it doesn’t.
It feels understated. It looks sophisticated. And it reflects a side of tennis culture I think deserves more attention.
Tennis can be technical and competitive without losing its sense of style.
My Verdict
Would I wear THE ROGER Clubhouse Pro?
Absolutely.
I’d wear them to play tennis.
I’d wear them around the club.
And I’d happily keep wearing them afterward.
That’s the whole point.
There’s something refreshing about tennis footwear that doesn’t feel like equipment every second it’s on your feet.
Add the Federer connection and, admittedly, I’m an easy sell.
But even putting my Federer fandom aside as much as humanly possible, I think the Clubhouse Pro gets something fundamentally right:
Tennis shoes can look like something you’d actually want to wear.
More of that, please.
